Since 1963, Gentry Heating, Inc. has been a family-owned heating and air conditioning company in Asheville, NC, whose heart is immersed in community involvement. We understand the importance of serving our friends and neighbors who are less fortunate and in need of our helping hands. It is with great pride and commitment that we participate in many local programs to reach this goal. Gentry Heating provides all employees with an additional paid day off each year for missions work or service to the community.
Gentry Heating & Cooling welcomed the local community to join us for the National Day of Prayer early Thursday, May 3rd, 2018. Duane Gentry welcomed everyone who attended. Our Chaplain, Glenn Lyles, and the Pastor of Swannanoa First Baptist Church, Dr. Jeff Dowdy, lead everyone in Prayer for Unity in our communities and in our nation. Breakfast was provided by Chick-fil-A.
The first week of April 2018 Gentry Heating returned to Guatemala to serve the people there. This trip, a team of five Gentry Heating staff traveled there to build a house for a family and to build stoves for five more families. It was a special time for our team to serve and be blessed by the wonderful people of Guatemala.
We donated 2 yards worth of compost to The Free Clinics of Hendersonville for them to use in their garden boxes. Terry Evans, our Commercial Sales Advisor, was happy to help with the delivery!
Every year our Gentry Team bands together to sponsor children that are either in sheltered, foster or orphaned situations. This year we were happy to partner with local radio station’s Mix 96.5 Christmas is for Kids – an annual event that partners with local agencies to ensure that displaced, foster or orphaned children get their Christmas wishes granted. This year we “adopted” 10 such children and everyone in the company contributed in order that every Christmas wish was granted.
Duane Gentry, our company President, stated:
“I am thankful to God for such a wonderful group of people that I get to work with every day. The gifts we gave to 10 orphans this Christmas were given by them – many of whom have difficultly providing gifts for their own families. Matthew 5:16 “…Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father which is in heaven”. Thank you Gentry Family for caring for others!”
Gentry Heating & Cooling attended the Swannanoa Valley Christian Ministry Walk for Hunger 2017 on Sunday, October 15th, 2017. Our group from Gentry Heating & Cooling helped pass out water bottles to those who participated in the Walk for Hunger, many participated in the Walk themselves, and Duane Gentry presented SVCM with a donation check that will go towards feeding the hungry in our area. We are proud to support SVCM both with our financial resources and volunteering our time; and we are passionate about feeding the hungry in our town. Overall, it was a fantastic day . . . even the dogs enjoyed the walk.”

The Mission of the Henderson County Hunger Coalition is “emergency food to needy families and individuals facing crisis situations”. The Coalition finances this work through donations raised by volunteers and Sponsorships received for the annual Hunger Walk… through gifts and contributions raised by supporting religious congregations, clubs, businesses, fraternal organizations, school-sponsored organizations and other groups… and through grants from foundations and individuals.
Gentry Heating & Cooling was one of the sponsors for this year’s Hunger Walk where we set up a tent to distribute water to the participants at Jackson Park in Hendersonville, NC – the starting point & finish line of the walk. The Team from Gentry Heating & Cooling enjoyed spending the day with all those who participated and took time to answer any HVAC questions they may have had.
Gentry Heating Inc. will be starting a FREE 4-part Bible Study series that we would like to make available to the general public. Whether you’re married, about to get married, or single and hope to get married; you are welcome to come.
THE CRAZY CYCLE IN MARRIAGE by Dr. Emerson Eggerichs
We know that divorce is a major issue in our culture today, both inside and outside the church. Despite our best attempts at love, couples find themselves paralyzed by dysfunction and mired in conflict. Why do we face so many seemingly insurmountable problems today? Is there hope for the struggle? What are we missing?
In this 4-part series, Dr. Emerson Eggerichs sheds light on an often overlooked, yet indispensable element of a healthy marriage—respect. Combining biblical instruction with scientific expertise, Emerson provides insight into the unique ways in which God has designed both men and women and how they can rightly embrace their differences in marriage. As couples come to see the heart behind their partner’s complaints, they will better understand the place for both love and respect between husband and wife. Rather than becoming another statistic, struggling marriages can break their Crazy Cycle and become thriving marriages by living in accordance to God’s good design.

In order to show our appreciation for everyone who works at Gentry Heating Inc., everyone was invited for some for some fun, food & music on Saturday – July 22, 2017 – for the company picnic.
On Saturday, June 24th, the team at Gentry Heating, along with significant support from Carrier Enterprises, Ferguson Enterprises, and East Coast Metals, worked together to install two completed HVAC systems – one for the family of Coach Olinger of Montreat College who was paralyzed recently in a car accident, and one for a family where one of the members has Parkinson’s. We want to give a special thanks to Mindy and Josh Harrington from Carrier Enterprises who came out to work with us. It was a great day giving back to the community we love.
In April 2017, Mr Gentry helped build a house for the poor while on a Christian mission trip to Guatemala.
On April, 2017, we had the privilege to volunteer our time at the Steadfast House For Women Asheville. Steadfast House provides women with a, “fresh start, as well as a place to heal surrounded and supported by Christian love, trust, education and companionship. We prepped food, cooked hamburgers and hot dogs on the grill, made and served multiple sides and ended the day with ice cream sundaes for dessert. It was a big hit with the women and children staying there.
In February 2017, we were so honored to help Swannanoa Christian Ministries and First Baptist Church of Black Mountain who established together a Homeless Shelter in Black Mountain. This homeless shelter was established in the Winter of 2010 and it operates from November 1st to March 31st in the fellowship hall of First Baptist Church of Black Mountain. Their doors open at 5:00 PM to those who are in need of a hot meal, showers, laundry facilities, a safe, warm place to sleep and protection from the elements. Our Team was able to prepare and serve a meal to those that are in need in our own community.
Thank you Gentry Team for providing much needed Christmas gifts and clothing for 12 Orphaned Children in our Community. Special thanks to NB Handy for sponsoring 2 children this year! Our prayer is that these little ones will feel the true love that came to us on that first Christmas morning!
We are always so happy to help Loving Food Resources! Our team collected 155lbs of food for their food pantry to assist in providing for people living with HIV/AIDS and in Hospice care.
We were so honored to help Swannanoa Christian Ministries again this year with the 2016 Hunger Walk. It was amazing to see so many people in the community raise money and come out to walk together to bring awareness to the growing need for hunger assistance in the Black Mountain and Swannanoa community. So far, the effort has raised over $40,000 (and it is still growing)!
During the month of August 2016, Gentry Heating employees gave 100+ pillow cases and other materials to Mud Creek Baptist Church’s ministry to Haiti, Africa and other impoverished countries. Talented men and women make these pillowcases into wonderful, little dresses to cloth young girls in these countries.
Such a wonderful day serving our neighbor, Ms. Hettie. Managers, technicians, office and sales staff, spouses and children came out to make spring cleaning just a little better for her. So much gratitude to all of our team who came out on this beautiful day. Special thanks to Okie Dokie Smokehouse for donating our BBQ lunch, Ingles for providing a carpet cleaner today, and to Madden Ace Hardware in Swannanoa for helping us provide a new window AC unit for Ms. Hettie. Amazing when the community comes together to make someone’s day just a little better.
In December of 2015, Gentry Heating employees “adopted” 10 orphans through Caring for Children of Asheville to provide Christmas gifts and clothing. Employees donated gifts, money, and other items to help those less fortunate.
In October 2015, Gentry Heating employees teamed up with Swannanoa Christian Ministries to raise money to feed the hungry in our community. Gentry sponsored the event and provided matching funds which helped raise $33,000.00.
On August 7, we held a community drive for a local elementary school. We would like to thank all in the Swannanoa community who came out to support our recent car wash, our company match of funds raised, our staff, and our vendor Fastenal. We were able to collect 9600 pages of ruled paper, 576 – #2 pencils, over 30 boxes of Crayola crayons, hand sanitizers, and boxes of tissues. These items helped the teachers of W.D. Williams Elementary School here in Swannanoa, to provide these much-needed supplies to children who could not afford to buy school supplies. It truly has been a group effort, and we are proud to be a part of this community!
On August 1, we had a great day serving the great folks at SteadFast House with a summer carnival. Big smiles, painted faces, grilled burgers and dogs, balloon hats, and red tongues from cherry snow cones made today so special. Huge thanks to the Team Gentry members who gave so generously to make this event so special.
On May 7, 2015, we held for a National Day of Prayer event for our local community. Many leaders from local businesses and churches were in attendance.
Gentry Heating’s team members served breakfast for all who came. Our chaplain, Steve Pack, led the ceremony.
Our Loving Food Resources Food Drive was a huge success! Thank you to everyone who helped with our food drive.

A total of 234 lbs of food!

Here are some photos from our recent serve event at the Steadfast House. Steadfast House is a shelter for abused women. What we love about them is that they are able to stay at the shelter with their children instead of being separated from them. In November, Gentry Heating employees spent an evening visiting with the women and children, cooked and served them a spaghetti supper, and had a great time!
These pictures of our December 2014 Serve event. Gentry Heating’s employees provided Christmas gifts for 10 orphan children in the area. We also asked our vendors to donate diapers and formula for Caring for Children in lieu of Christmas gifts to our company. It was a huge success.
The Gentry Heating, Inc. team had a fantastic time serving our neighbors in the east Buncombe community on July 12, 2014, with a car wash and safety checks, grilling a little lunch, and playing a bit with the children. We are thankful to be a part of this community and hope we made it’s day just a little brighter.
In December 2013, our employees adopted 13 orphans ages 2-10 from the local Asheville, NC charity Caring for Children, Inc. The children do not currently have a permanent foster family and our team willingly provided them with Christmas gifts. The CARING programs provide assistance for children and families in crisis due to abuse, family conflict, neglect, mental health issues, and behavioral problems. We are proud of our staff for being a part of this great cause this holiday season.
In November 2013, our staff collected 250 pounds of non-perishable food items for the Steadfast House Women & Children’s Shelter in Asheville, NC for Thanksgiving. Women who have been victims of domestic abuse can stay at the Steadfast House Women & Children’s Shelter without being separated from their children.
In October 2012, our employees provided a fabulous Halloween party and much-needed clothing for the children at The Steadfast House Women & Children’s Shelter. At Steadfast House, HEART stands for Healing, Equipping, Adjustment, Restoration, and Transition. It is an honor and a privilege to work with this amazing organization.
Most people are not aware of the many career opportunities available within the HVAC industry. Just imagine your home without any heat or air conditioning! It takes a great number of skilled professionals to provide for the many needs associated with indoor comfort and air quality. With this in mind, Duane Gentry and John Tate met with High School Juniors and Seniors in November 2012 to help them learn all about Career Options in the HVAC industry.
In March 2013, Gentry Heating, Inc. reached out to help another local community organization, Loving Food Resources. We were able to collect 300 pounds of much needed food for their pantry. Loving Food Resources provides food relief for indigent people with HIV and AIDS, in addition to those in home hospice care. Now in their 20th year of service, Loving Food Resources has been providing food, health, and personal care items to those in need in our community.
Chloe Gentry, the 14-year-old daughter of owner Duane Gentry, volunteers at Loving Food Resources on a regular basis. She is bringing the spirit of community service to a whole new generation and carrying on the family tradition of providing support through integrity, respect, and heart.
At Gentry Heating, Inc. we are committed to the ongoing community involvement that is at the heart of our organization. This commitment to service and support is our core philosophy and applies to all our friends, neighbors, and customers throughout our Asheville, NC community.
Gentry Heating and Cooling Employees collected 133 pounds of food for Loving Food Resources. LFR provides nutritious food to people living with HIV/AIDS or those in Home Hospice Care.
